Everyone loves a bit of free music, and with the promise of scorching temperatures over the weekend Gorky Park once again looks like the place to be. Admittedly, the sporting strand of the Faces & Laces urban culture festival might be a bit too strenuous in this weather – best leave the running about to the experts at the World Athletics Championship at Luzhniki – but there’s a strong musical program as well over the two-day event.
Most of it comes from local DJs, but there are also live sets from Mujuice, who we last heard of bringing his thoughtful downtempo electro to flacon (Sat. 7 pm) and Glintshake (Sun. 7 pm), whose grunge-inflected garage rock was recently heard at Piknik Afishi. The other local act on show is Dza (Sun. 5 pm), an emerging creator of electro collages with heavy reference to classic computer game sound effects.
The bill also features two visiting acts, Kurtis Blow and Shabazz Palaces. Full line-up here.
There’s also a fair amount of contemporary art on view, including works by Moscow’s Dmitry Aske, also known as SickSystems (see photo).
